Senior Product Development Engineer POSITION SUMMARY: This is a Senior Engineering position with primary responsibility for development of new products used for engine related systems control. Working with a development team, the Senior Engineer will be responsible for: developing product concepts, production design, and product validation. This position will also provide direction and support to other team members for prototyping, manufacturing, quality, reliability and purchased components.Functions in support of product development programs with the ability to perform the Key Accountabilities, with limited supervision, while demonstrating strong Key Competencies. Demonstrates characteristics that foster team progress, initiative to take-on challenging assignments and create opportunity where none exists. Considered a technical expert with good interpersonal skills. Work in partnership with Tech Center and Engine Systems manufacturing locations aligned with Systems business objectives. Capable of demonstrating strong problem solving and analytical skills. Accountabilities will include documentation of activities appropriate to the work. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Teamwork Product Design Prototype Program Management Lab Development Document Control Customer Management. Responsible for supporting division wide cost reduction and containment initiatives. Responsible for supporting the preparation of, and carrying out of, significant internal and external project presentations Special Assignments - Responsible for completion of special assignments as required. EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred (Mechanical or Electrical). Minimum of 8 years of job related experience required of which at least 5 years in Product Development Engineering with primary responsibly for product concept, design and documentation Development and production launch of components and assemblies for the automotive market including: Design of mechanical and electro-mechanical components such as Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valves Electrical actuators using solenoids or D.C. motor Knowledge of component design and processes such as stampings, bushings, sensors, diaphragms, castings, injection molded plastic parts, and machining Knowledge of materials and application including plastics, metals, elastomer Lead design reviews including dimensioning and tolerance stacks Support development of DFM/A, DFMEA, & DVP&R Prototyping Design validation and testing, Formal knowledge of problem solving methods is desirable (DOE, 8-D, etc.) Problem solving Proficient with computer and MS Office products Familiarity with statistical methods for data analysis would be beneficial KEY COMPETENCIES Customer Focus - Is dedicated to meeting the exceptions and requirements of internal and external customers; Gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services; Acts with customers in mind; Establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect.
